Ryerson School Kids Raise $2K For Make-A-Wish During 'Penny Wars'
In Feb. kids were asked to donate change, which was used for fun math activities. At the end of the month, the coins were counted: $2,000!
MADISON, CT — Throughout the month of February, the Ryerson Elementary School community held its first Penny Wars, a competition among grade levels to raise money.
Students were encouraged to bring in change that was used for fun math activities including counting, predicting, and estimating. At the end of the month, the money was totaled, and the winning grade level got to choose which charity would receive the collected $2,000.
The second-graders raised the most and selected 'Make a Wish,' the organization that grants life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses, as the receiving charity.
