School Lunches Available, Even During Distance Leaning
Families pick up lunches at Daniel Hand High School. Pizza, burgers, wraps, salads, sandwiches, fruits and veggies are all on the menu.
MADISON, CT — Madison Public Schools has made school lunches available on those days when kids are learning at home. Families order and then pick up lunches at Daniel Hand High School.
It may be helpful to know what's on the menu when deciding on a lunch purchase. Here's the link to the full menus for all Madison schools.
To participate, the family will drive up to the Tiger Door between 11 a.m. and noon. The Tiger Door is located at Daniel Hand High school on the far right side of the building. Parents / students will stay in their car. Student ID’s or Lunch ID cards must be shown at the time of pickup. Cards will be scanned for payment. No cash is accepted. Your child's account will be charged the appropriate amount for the school your child attends. If a student is qualified for free or reduced price meals, they will receive their meals at the free or reduced price. Here is the application for free or reduced price lunch. School lunch prices are:
Elementary: $3.25
Brown Intermediate: $3.50
Polson Middle School: $3.50 - $4.00
Daniel Hand High School: $3.50 - $4.25
Reduced price for qualifying families: $.40

And while on the first two days of school, Thursday and Friday, there is no distance learning — that begins on Sept. 8, the district will still start the meal pick-up option Thursday.
Eating lunch in school: what's that look like?
For starters, fear not pizza and burger lovers, those items are on the menu, along with wraps, salads and hummus and veggies, for example.
Students in Grades K-5 will eat in their classrooms. The teacher will send an order form to the cafeteria in the morning. The cafeteria will deliver food to the classroom. Menus will consist of meal bundles only. À la carte will not be offered.
Students in grades 6 through 12 go to the cafeteria to purchase food. The menu will consist of full meals only. À la carte will not be offered. Students will wear a mask in the cafeteria and may only remove it while they are seated. Cashiers will wear a mask and stand behind a plexiglass shield.
