Some Madison Residents Tell Officials Time to Move Food Trucks

The topic of food trucks wasn't on the selectmen's agenda, but that didn't stop people from debating the issue once again.

Of course Monday’s Board of Selectmen meeting turned into another unofficial debate over the seemingly never ending debate of where the Madison food trucks should be located.

A number of residents during the public comment portion of the meeting asked the selectmen to reconsider and move the food trucks out of the town’s historic district and into a more commercial district, reports Mallory Diedrich, of the Madison Source.

Speakers were careful to say they don’t oppose the food trucks, it’s just an issue of location. One speaker suggested the trucks relocated to Samson Rock Drive by Stop & Shop.

Some speakers also spoke in support of the food trucks.

The selectmen took no action because the issue of the food trucks was not on their agenda.

A group of residents are also planning a “Madison Food Truck Appreciation Day,” which is scheduled for Friday, April 24.

“This is an event to allow the citizens of Madison to come down at their convenience and purchase a food item from the trucks to show their support for them being there,” said one of the event’s organizers Richard (Rik) Lammers told Madison Patch.

More than 125 people have indicated they plan to attend the rally for the food trucks.

“Since some have panned the town survey as not truly accurate or representative of the town support, this should provide tangible evidence of the majority of Madison residents being supportive of the food truck vendors,” added Lammers.

A survey conducted by the town last year revealed that almost 90 percent of residents were supportive of the food trucks and having them located on School Street.

Lammers said organizers coordinated with all 5 trucks who are typically there on Fridays and they are all participating.

The following are the food truck vendors who will be there and their hours of operation:

Tacqueria Cinco (10 – 7)

Taco Pacifico (12-7)

High Tide Gourmet (12-7)

Sugar Bakery Cupcake (3:30-6:30)

Meriano’s Canoli (3-7).
