Some Students Learn Remotely After Positive Case At Ryerson

Schools superintendent Craig Cooke told families the case in an elementary school "community member" isn't school-based transmission.

MADISON, CT — A positive coronavirus case reported at Ryerson Elementary School has a number of students switched to remote learning, new Madison schools superintendent Craig Cooke told families in a letter Wednesday.

The person was told to "remain home and quarantine."

"All students directly impacted by this temporary shift to remote learning have already been contacted by a school administrator," Cooke said.

"It is important to note that we have not received any other reports of staff or students who have experienced symptoms or signs of illness and this case is not a result of school-based transmission," Cooke wrote adding that after "investigation and consultation" with the person who tested positive, school and health officials said the school can remain open.

As of Thursday afternoon, there are nine active student cases and four active staff cases.
