The Urban Archeologist: Nuclear or Nucular? Does it matter?

You say potato; I say ground zero

It's a common internet flame war when this word is mentioned and then any one of a number of presidents who have pronounced it one way or the other. The truth is that there is no difference, both pronunciations are correct, only the spelling of Nucular is wrong.

Today we can snicker over the Cold War, but during the 1950's through the 70's it was no laughing matter. Civil preparedness reminders came daily in the form of fall-out shelter directions and radiation detection kits that were sold in department stores.
