Three Attorneys on Ballot for Madison's Probate Judge Race
The newly elected probate judge will serve both Madison and Guilford.

Attorneys William Bilcheck, Peter Barrett and Tom Virgulto are running for the probate judge race in Madison and Guilford at November’s election, Jack Kramer reports from The Source.
According to their website, in addition to their traditional role of overseeing decedents’ estates and trusts, the Probate Courts handle a wide range of sensitive issues affecting children, the elderly, persons with intellectual disability, and individuals with psychiatric disabilities.
In 2010, the state consolidated probate districts, combining Guilford and Madison into one court now based in Madison, the Source reports. Candidates for probate court must be attorneys and members of the Connecticut Bar Association.

According to the paper, Bilcheck is the Republican candidate and has maintained a law practice in Madison for 25 years and has also served as a member of the Madison Planning and Zoning Commission. Barrett, the Democratic candidate is from Guilford and is a New Haven-area attorney with experience in probate matters. He has also served as corporation counsel to both the Town of Guilford and the City of West Haven.
Tom Virgulto, a Madison lawyer will also be contesting as an unaffiliated candidate. He calls his campaign a “grassroots effort”.

The winner will be replacing current probate judge, Joel Helander, a Republican.
