Town's Youth & Family Services Offers Training To Prevent Suicide

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer: 3 steps to help save a life. MYFS is ready to bring the crucial training anywhere in Madison.

MADISON, CT — Question. Persuade. Refer. Three steps to help save a life from suicide.

People who are trained in QPR "learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help," according to the QPR Institute.

Madison Youth and Family Services is well versed in the life-saving practice and have done trainings for Daniel Hand High School and Polson Middle School PTOs last winter and this week, for 50 members of the Madison Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

That training was for the QPR Gatekeeper, who can be anyone from a family member or friend, to a minister or teacher. In that training, participants learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide, how to offer hope and how to get help and save a life.

In a post to Facebook, MYFS noted that it had partnered with the church to provide the training to dozens of members, including both adults and youth.
