Is Your Street Sign Missing, Madison? Here's Why

A "rash" of street sign thefts began last year, and the town is seeing a "recent resurgence of sign vandalism and/or theft" across town.

MADISON, CT — Not surprisingly, they happen mostly under the cover of darkness, Madison police said.

A "rash" of street sign thefts began last year, Madison First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons noted in a message to the community. And, the town has seen a "recent resurgence of sign vandalism and/or theft throughout various neighborhoods in Madison," Lyons said.

Madison Police Department Capt. Douglas Harkins confirmed for Patch that there have been reports of street sign thefts, and vandalism.

"We believe they are occurring on the late at night," he said. And added that no arrests have yet been made. Nor have signs been recovered.

Lyons said that residents who have reported their street sign is gone should call the Public Works Department at (203) 245-5611. Lyons asked that folks "Please be patient, as replacement signs take time to order and reinstall."
