MANCHESTER, CT — A 130 mph chase in Manchester led to the arrest of a man considered a habitual reckless motorcyclist, state police said.

On Wednesday, a trooper assigned to the Connecticut State Police Traffic Unit was stopped at a red light in traffic on Buckland Hills Drive at the intersection with Buckland Street, according to an incident report. The Trooper observed a motorcyclist on a Suzuki weaving through the traffic while straddling the center dividing lines in order to obtain a position towards the front of the stopped traffic.

The trooper was able to see the operator clearly as well as document the registration plate as the operator committed several traffic violations, according to an incident report.

As the light cycled to green, the motorcyclist continued across Buckland St and traveled westbound on Pleasant Valley Road where he then entered the Interstate 84 westbound connector ramp while tailgating other vehicles and "passing unsafely," according to an incident report. Once the connector opened up into two lanes toward the split of I-84 west and I-384, the operator accelerated to speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to an incident report.

The trooper, was initially undetected in a the traffic car, but then activated his lights and siren behind the motorcycle in an attempt to pull it over, but the rider then accelerated to better than 130 mph on I-84 west, just prior to Exit 58, according to an incident report.

Because of "the dangers a pursuit would have posed," the Trooper did not follow the bike any further, according to an incident report.

Investigators identified the rider as 45-year-old New Britain resident Paris Perry, who had "an arrest history related to reckless driving," and descended upon his home, according to an incident report. The man was cooperative and admitted that he was the operator of the motorcycle during the chase. It was also discovered the accused did not have a proper motorcycle driver's license. police said.

Perry was charged with:

  • Reckless driving
  • Engaging police in a pursuit
  • Failure to obey the signal of an officer;
  • Failure to maintain the proper lane
  • Failure to have the proper license

He is scheduled to appear in Manchester Superior Court on May 5.
