175-foot Bridge Connecting Park, Broad Street Opens in Manchester

The bridge is now part of the trail system.

MANCHESTER, CT — The ribbon has been cut on the Center Springs Park connection to Broad Street, meaning the 175-foot pedestrian span is now officially part of the Cheney trail system.

What town officials described as a "modified bowstring" bridge was put in place over an old railroad embankment that runs between the park and Broad Street along the Cheney Rail Trail.

The $1.65 million project was spurred along when the drainage system along Edgerton Street failed and a sinkhole developed on the roadway back in 2009.
