Why are you seeking this office?

It’s been an honor to serve as your State Representative for the last 8 years and we’ve accomplished a lot together: we passed the largest income tax cuts in Connecticut state history, passed landmark legislation for working families, acted to protect the environment, expanded health coverage and protected reproductive rights, brought historic state funding back home to Manchester and Glastonbury, and enacted some common sense gun control measures, just to name a few! there's alot more work to do, particularly on affordability issues - especially housing, utilities, and taxes. I look forward to continuing to serve you and I am grateful for your support.

What do you believe is the No. 1 issue facing Connecticut, and how do you plan to address it?

Affordability issues - mainly housing, utilities, healthcare and taxes. As Chair of the Banking Committee, I've been a leader at the Capitol on issues of Housing, specifically with regard to homeownership opportunites and financing programs. On utilities, we need to more aggressively hold Eversource accountable. On healthcare, we need to work towards true universal coverage and a public option. Finally on taxes, we need to equitibly rebalance our tax structure and find a way to reduce property taxes for working people.

Energy costs have been soaring in Connecticut. What are your plans to help address this issue?

We need a holistic change in how we regulate utlities in Connecticut. I believe the deregulation of the 1990s has completely failed us and we need stronger controls than currently exist to keep utility companies accountable to the ratepayers. We've made some modest changes over my time in office but we should go much further. At the same time we need to continue to diversify our energy portfolio and more aggressively pursue sources of renewable energy to add capacity to the grid. We need to continue to scrutinize charges and programs under the "public benefits" portion of our electric bills.

Affordability has been a major topic across the country and here in Connecticut. How do you plan to address this issue?

See answer above!

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I have done my best to be an effective legislator over the last eight years - passing lots of legislation important to our towns and our state, serving in leadership roles, such as Chair of Banking Committee, assisting many constituents with issues and problems with state agencies, bringing historic funding back home to Manchester and Glastonbury, and listening and being engaged in the community. I appreciate your continued support and it is an honor to serve!

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I appreciate your support and will continue working hard for you!
