23 Students Promoted in Academy's "Train Like a Jedi" Program!
1st group of students go through arduous test to earn next rank.
The Academy of Martial Arts & Personal Development's “Train Like a Jedi” Program recently held their first rank test, aptly nicknamed “The Jedi Trials”! In what looks like something out of “American Ninja Warrior”, the 23 students undergoing “the trials” demonstrated their proficiency in acrobatics, martial arts, climbing, and parkour, as well as their dynamic lightsaber skills, of course! In addition to the physically demanding test, all of the students had to fulfill a Community Service project, as outlined in their curriculum. In all, there were more than 30 “Acts of Kindness” and community service committed by the Jedi students. Grandmaster Joel Waldron, owner of the Academy of Martial Arts & Personal Development, and creator of its “Train Like a Jedi” program, felt it was important to incorporate the compassion and diplomacy that the Jedi were also known for. He says, “Yes, swinging a lightsaber around is really cool, but that is only a piece of why so many people look up to the Jedi. It’s also their belief in peace, compassion and inner strength that set them apart from everyone else. Doing these acts of Kindness is a way for the students to internalize those lessons and, hopefully, influence others around them to do the same.”
An increasingly popular reason for enrolling children in the martial arts is to develop "Life Skills" in the students. These skills include discipline, self control, patience, confidence, courage, tolerance, honesty, respect and integrity among others. Training in a quality martial arts school reinforces those character building qualities that are timeless and transcend all cultural boundaries.
