MANCHESTER, CT — The man charged in connection with Friday's shooting at the Shoppes at Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester remained in custody Monday after failing to post a $1 million bond at his arraignment in court.

Richard LaPlante, a 30-year-old Windsor resident, is due back before a judge on Sept. 7, a clerk at Manchester Superior Court said.

LaPlante is accused of shooting a Macy's loss prevention officer at the mall Friday amid a shoplifting incident, police said. The officer has been in an area hospital with stomach wounds.
