MANCHESTER, CT — Firefighters in Manchester rushed to a pair of fires Wednesday.
At 12:35 p.m., a structure fire broke out at 34 Faith Circle.
When they arrived at the scene, firefighters encountered a small blaze in a kitchen and it was quickly brought under control, fire officials said.
Moderate damage was reported and one occupant was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, fire officials said.
At 3:23 p.m., Manchester firefighters responded to the second structure fire of the day.
Multiple calls reported a large fire on Hilliard Street, first identified as a house and then confirmed to be 75 Hilliard St., which is the same building as Time Machine Hobby.
The fire broke out in a rear address, attached to the 40,000 square foot old mill building, originally built in 1888, fire officials said. Heavy fire could be seen in the rear occupancy, extending out multiple windows and the roof, they said.
Two people were in the building at the time and were able to escape without injury, fire officials said.
Manchester firefighters initiated an aggressive fire attack and, during their efforts, a "significant collapse"occurred that brought down the roof and second floors," fire officials said.
"Luckily, the fire was contained to the initial occupancy and Time Machine Hobby is largely undamaged," fire officials said.
The incident went to multiple alarms, brining in East Hartford, City of Hartford, South Windsor, Glastonbury and West Hartford crews.
No injuries were reported.
As of 7:45 p.m., the incident was still "a very active scene," with heavy equipment being requested to dismantle the collapse, fire officials said.
Hilliard Street was closed for the work.
The local fire marshal's office will be conducting an investigation for origin and cause.
