HARTFORD, CT — State Rep. Geoff Luxenberg, D-Manchester, has been appointed deputy speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives by Matt Ritter.
Luxenberg, who has represented Manchester's 12th House District since 2019, previously served as assistant deputy speaker. In his new role, he will preside over House debates and legislative proceedings when the speaker is absent from the chamber.
"It is an honor to be promoted to deputy speaker of the House, and I take great pride in the trust from Speaker Ritter to serve in this role," Luxenberg said in a statement. He said he looks forward to working with Ritter and fellow lawmakers during the upcoming legislative session.
Jason Rojas said Luxenberg has become a leading voice within the Democratic caucus on issues affecting Manchester and communities across Connecticut.
"His promotion to deputy speaker reflects the trust our caucus has in him to lead the chamber with integrity, a commitment to Connecticut values and a respect for the integrity of our legislative process," Rojas said.
Ritter praised Luxenberg's service to his constituents and the House leadership team, saying he looks forward to working with him in the new position.
In addition to serving as deputy speaker, Luxenberg will continue serving on the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee and the General Law Committee.
