MANCHESTER, CT — Connecticut's Office of the Inspector General and the Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime Squad are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred late July 12 at a residence on Parker Street.
According to a preliminary report released by the Office of the Inspector General Tuesday, Manchester police responded to a 911 call shortly before 11 p.m. reporting a domestic disturbance at 994 Parker St. The caller told dispatch that a family member, later identified as 18-year-old David Cordero, was out of control and damaging property inside the home, according top the report.
In a second 911 call, the caller reported that Cordero was armed with a kitchen knife and responding officers were advised by dispatch that the suspect was reportedly armed, according to the report.
Officer Antony Dejulius was the first officer to arrive at the scene. As he exited his cruiser, he saw Cordero chasing a man who was running toward the police vehicle, according to the preliminary findings.
The report states that Dejulius ordered Cordero to stop before firing three shots from his service weapon. Cordero was struck in the shoulder, the report details.
Although dispatch had advised officers that the suspect was armed with a knife, investigators said no knife was recovered from the area where Cordero was shot, the report says.
Cordero received immediate medical treatment at the scene before being transported to Hartford Hospital. He was later released. according to the report.
He has been charged with third-degree assault, first-degree criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and third-degree criminal mischief.
The Office of the Inspector General said the investigation remains ongoing. No additional information was immediately released.
