Manchester Officials Set Library Transition Timeline For New Main Street Building

MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester officials have outlined the transition period for the new library.

The Mary Cheney Library building will close to the public after Saturday, Aug. 8, as the Town of Manchester prepares to move its collections and operations into the new main library on Main Street.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 10, the Mary Cheney building will be closed while professional movers pack library materials and relocate them to the new facility, according to the town.

During the transition, patrons can continue using the Whiton Branch Library at 100 N. Main St., which will remain open during its regular hours.

The town's new main library at 1041 Main St. is scheduled to stage its grand opening at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14.

The approximately $50 million project is being funded through a combination of $39 million in bonding funds, $5 million from the U.S. Treasury Capital Projects Fund, $3.5 million from the state Community Investment Fund and $2.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding.
