📰 News we're reading

• 3 people displaced after fire at home in Manchester (nbcconnecticut.com) — A Friday morning house fire on Salem Road in Manchester left three residents displaced and one person treated on scene for smoke inhalation. Manchester and East Hartford firefighters quickly knocked down the basement blaze, but the home is now uninhabitable, with the Red Cross assisting those affected while the fire marshal investigates the cause.

• Historic Connecticut industrial site could get a second life as housing (ctpost.com) — A long-vacant industrial complex on Apel Place in Manchester has had its asking price slashed from $1.5 million to about $800,000, opening the door to new uses. The historic former feed plant, once home to Manchester Barbecue Pellets, could be reworked for modern industrial use or redeveloped into housing similar to planned apartments at nearby 35 Oakland Street.

• Hartford Students Get Boost from Hygiene Initiatives (investorshangout.com) — Hartford-based hygiene initiatives are helping local students stay in class and feel confident, with Manchester High School staff calling the support for female students "an absolute blessing." Through events like Templo Fe's Back-2-School Bash and partners such as Dignity Grows, thousands of area kids receive free hygiene totes, easing financial strain on families and reducing school absences tied to basic needs.
