Basement Fire Damages Home In Manchester

MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester firefighters responded to a reported fire Friday morning that damaged a home on Salem Road, displacing three residents.

The Manchester Fire Department was dispatched at about 7:08 a.m. to the area of 42 Salem Road for a possible fire. Responding crews located a basement fire at 32 Salem Road and began an attack.

Five Manchester fire companies responded. Crews deployed multiple attack lines, searched all floors of the home and ventilated the building as needed. The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes, according to the fire department.

The home sustained moderate damage and is currently uninhabitable, fire officials said. Three occupants were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

One person was evaluated for possible smoke inhalation but declined transportation to a hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The East Hartford Fire Department provided coverage for Manchester during the incident.

The Manchester Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
