Bennet Academy celebrated Memorial Day on Thursday May 25th by having a special assembly honoring veterans and active military.

400 Bennet Academy students were be given a mini American flag to hold and later on inserted their flags in the front lawn of the building. The flags will be left overnight for the beginning of the Memorial Day Parade which starts in front of Bennet Academy.

Major Christensen formerly stationed in Afghanistan, father of former Bennet Student Emily Christensen, skyped in from his home addressing the student body on the meaning of Memorial Day. After his first two tours, the former Manchester native, said he "did some soul-searching" about how to honor friends he had lost. He said he decided not to mourn, but to celebrate their courage and sacrifice and keep their memory "bright in my heart." Christensen quoted Gen. George S. Patton, who said, "It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."
