Board of Directors Supports Decision Made by Manchester Area Conference of Churches
MACC recently made the decision to close its homeless shelter rather than admit people who are actively using drugs or alcohol.

On Tuesday, the board of directors unanimously supported Manchester Area Conference of Churches’ decision to close its homeless shelter, according to the Hartford Courant.
MACC recently made the decision to close its homeless shelter rather than admit people who are actively using drugs or alcohol. This is nothing new, as MACC has had a long-term policy of denying admission to active substance-abusers.
With this vote, MACC will now be able to use this area for other purposes. Although MACC owns the building, it is mandated that town directors approve the nonprofit agency’s use of the building absent an emergency shelter.

MACC will continue to run a food pantry and soup kitchen and will continue to reach out to homeless people to provide resources to house them and prevent others from becoming homeless.
