Bob's Furniture/Alex's Lemonade Stand Campaign Nets $85,000

A campaign led by Bob's Discount Furniture has netted $85,000 and new furniture for a foundation and cancer treatment center.

MANCHESTER, CT — Bob’s Discount Furniture this week presented $85,000 to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Money was donated by customers during the third-quarter of Bob’s Café Collections for a Cause program, which provides a 100 percent match of fundraising efforts.

To kick off “Giving Tuesday,” Bob Kaufman, the co-founder of Bob’s Discount Furniture, presented a ceremonial big check to Liz Scott, Alex’s mother and co-executive Director of the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

The check presentation took place at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where Alex was treated. It marked the first time in more than 15 years that Scott has been back to the hospital.

The event event also marked the official start of CCMC's renovation of its Second Floor Teen Center Lounge, which will be filled with selected Bob’s Discount Furniture pieces at its completion, next year.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation was founded by Alex Scott, a Manchester, Connecticut native, when she was 4 years old. The Foundation has continued through her parents, Liz and Jay Scott, in honor of their daughter’s legacy to help cure childhood cancers.

Students from the Manchester High School’s woodshop class and Young Men and Women’s Leadership Groups worked closely with Bob’s Discount Furniture and the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to build and staff an authentic lemonade stand that was set up outside the Bob’s Discount Furniture store in Manchester to raise money for childhood cancer as part of the Bob’s Café Collections for a Cause program.
