Bond Commission expected to approve funds for concrete

Rep. Luxenberg pleased with anticipated action to help homeowners with failing concrete foundations

Manchester State Representative Geoff Luxenberg is pleased to report an expected $20 million in funding for the Crumbling Foundations Assistance Fund. The request for funding is on the agenda of a special meeting of the State Bond Commission next Tuesday.

“I want to thank Gov. Lamont for understanding the needs of so many property owners in Manchester and elsewhere who are trying to cope with cracked and crumbling concrete foundations,” said Rep. Luxenberg. “The governor saw the need to allocate these funds to the state’s captive insurance company which provides aid to affected homeowners. And it comes in light of his promise to hold the line on big bonding commitments.”

Thousands of homes in northern and eastern Connecticut have been impacted by inferior concrete containing pyrrhotite. Because the naturally occurring mineral causes a slow and steady degradation in concrete, homeowners are saddled with declining property values, and big bills to repair or replace foundations.
