Buckland Business Brief 4/12/18
New Burger Joint to join Plaza. Trader Joe's update. Toys R Us and Babies R Us to close. Dairy Queen raises money for good cause.
It is that time of the month again, time for the Buckland Business Brief! This month had very few closures, but both closures were big; taking up a combined 60,000 square feet of retail space. This month also brought a variety of new businesses to the area including a new burger restaurant, a new salon, and a new mattress store. This month also brought the relocation of a furniture store and formal wear store to make way for a new home decor superstore. Without further ado, lets get to the business news!

-Toys R Us will be closing their Manchester location, and sadly the whole chain will be liquidated by the end of July. For more information on the closure check out Official: Toys R Us to close all stores!
-Babies R Us will be closing their Manchester location, the chain (along with Toys R Us) will be liquidated.

-K&G has closed their Manchester store at Burr Corners but will reopen this summer in a location TBA. K&G had previously stated that they had no information if they were closing or relocating. The store lost their lease to make way for At Home which will open this fall.
Opening:
-BURGERIM will open a location in Gateway Plaza! BURGERIM will join an impressive roster of tenants like Cox Communications, Panera, Walgreens, IHOP, Sprint, and many more. The chain is similar to BurgerFi or Smashburger.
-Phenix Salon Suites has opened at their location near Christmas Tree Shops, Phenix joins Dalene Carpet One.
-Namco has reopened their Manchester store near Walmart! The chain temporarily closed the store for the winter. The company has rebranded too, now with a new logo!
-Tempur-Pedic has opened their new flagship location in South Windsor! They're located in the newly built plaza called One Buckland Road.
-Pilgrim Furniture and Mattress City has opened in their new location at The Shoppes at Burr Corners. They moved from the former VF Outlet/Caldor space into a space last occupied by a grocery store.

-Flatbread Company is hiring for their new South Windsor location! Take a took at their Facebook for more information.
-KB Toys has announced their comeback! The toy store chain hopes to open 1,000 stores by the Christmas season. The chain previously had a store at the mall and one in Vernon.
-The Pop Up Shoppes at Buckland Hills will be hosting a Mother’s Day Sale in the former FYE. Check Out the picture in the above gallery for details!
-I’m excited to report that interior work for Trader Joe’s is well under way! The interior of EMS is being demolished into a 'Vanilla Box' so Trader Joe’s can reconfigure the space.
-Construction has really picked up at Cost Plus World Market's facade. World Market will open in October.
-Mall owner GGP will be acquired by conglomerate Brookfield Properties in a deal valued at over $15 Billion. The combined company will be on of the largest commercial management companies in the world.
-Juicy J's Juice Bar has started renovations on their Manchester location. Congratulations!
-At Home is now ready to start work on their Manchester location, they will be taking over the former Pilgrim Furniture City and the now former K&G location. At Home couldn't start construction until both tenants had vacated.
Other Manchester News:
-Special shout-out to Dairy Queen on Hartford Rd! They raised $800 for the Children's Miracle Network on Free Cone Day! In addition to charging a $1 donation for added sprinkles or dips, employees also donated their tips toward the Children's Miracle Network! Good Job DQ Crew!
-Country Mart, former Cumberland Farms, is under new management; they have renamed the store “Ray’s Convenience.”
-Farmington Bank has opened their Manchester location! They opened on April 7 with an appearance from Tim Wakefield!
-Coventry Farms has become the 'Market on Main' with a much more elegant facade.
-Carlito’s Bakery will open in the Conyer’s True Value Plaza. The sign has been installed. Look for a future Grand Opening!
-The Angry Egg has opened their location on Main Street! They took over the former Sunny Side Up Restaurant.
-Steve's Bagel says that their new Manchester location will open in May. Their other Manchester location will remain open when the new location opens.
-Good News for Broad Street! The easement that has plagued the town-owned side of the Parkade from a planned development has been dissolved! The easement prevented the developer, Live Work Learn Play, from building outside the former building's footprints.
-Champagne West Motors will open a used car dealership in the former home of Decormier Nissan.
-The Lucky Taco will be expanding their Main Street location into the space formerly occupied by an upholstery shop. Construction has started, and the owners say they will be open through the expansion.
