Funny Bone Comedy Club & Restaurant

Shapel Lacey is a Los Angeles based comedian born and raised in Mesa, Arizona. A diehard punk rocker and former award-winning competitive cheerleader, Shapel found ways to express himself and own his individuality at an early age. Shapel was cheerleading competitively for University of Louisville when someone dared him to take the stage as a comedian and he never looked back, dropping out shortly thereafter to pursue a career in stand up full-time. His unique life experiences such as being adopted by a Caucasian family at age 15, his punk rock mentality, and his stage presence make for a truly original voice in the comedy community. Diligence and the desire to grow led Shapel from the Phoenix open mic circuit onto main stages, where he regularly performed for comedians such as Bill Burr, Hannibal Buress, and Brendan Schaub, and is now headlining clubs across the country. Shapel was selected to be a “New Face” at the 2019 Just For Laughs Comedy Festival.

The Mass-Conn-Fusion Band loves to share their energy and passion for music with audiences of all ages. They have the dance party covered with soul, funk, motown, disco and pop. The quintet features Hartford’s own Gianni Gardner on guitar, and Trinity Warren on vocals. Jim Healy is the bassist and leader of the group for over 45 years. His long-time side kicks, Tim Urso on drums and Liz Roberts on saxophones join in for all out Mass-Conn-Fusion.

Finex Credit Union will host a Shred Day on Saturday, September 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at its Vernon branch, located at 60 Hyde Avenue, Vernon, CT. The event is free and open to the public.
The event will give community members an opportunity to securely dispose of sensitive documents in a safe and convenient way. Attendees may bring up to three boxes of paper documents per person. Only paper documents will be accepted for shredding.
In addition to shredding services, Finex will also be accepting non-perishable food donations for Hockanum Valley Community Council Food Pantry during the event.
Finex invites community members to stop by with documents to shred and, if they are able, bring a non-perishable food item to donate.

The Jay Heritage Center in Rye, New York will celebrate America at 250 with a toast to Jay Medal honorees Pulitzer Prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed, the Carl M. Loeb University Professor at Harvard University and award-winning Lincoln historian Harold Holzer.
The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.

The Jay Medal Soirée will be held Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Jay Estate from 5:30-9:30pm. Cocktails, dinner, award ceremony and dancing. Cocktail Attire.

<a href="https://greaterhartfordgives.org/community-funds/greater-hartford-gives-manchester-community-fund/" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">The Manchester Community Fund at the Greater Hartford Gives Foundation</a>, which recently awarded more than $39,000 to local nonprofit groups making a difference throughout Manchester, is once again looking for local projects to support.
For the 2026-2027 grant cycle that began on Sept. 1 and ends on Oct. 13, the Manchester Community Fund is welcoming proposals that will improve or enhance the quality of life of Manchester residents or otherwise contribute to solving a direct need of the community. Individual grant awards range from $250 to $5,000.&nbsp;


In order to be considered for grant funding, projects must benefit the residents of Manchester in an immediate, concrete way. Any nonprofit registered as a 501(c)(3) organization that serves the residents of Manchester is eligible to apply. Groups of town residents may also prepare an application in partnership with a registered 501(c)(3) or municipality that has agreed to serve as a fiscal sponsor for the proposed project.&nbsp;
