MANCHESTER, CT — A child was hit by a lawnmower over the weekend in Manchester and was taken to an area hospital with what a safety official described as a serious leg injury.

The accident took place at 2:20 p.m. Saturday at a residence on Avery Street, Manchester Fire Rescue and EMS Battalion Chief Craig Webb said.

A 6-year-old boy was hit by a riding mower, he said.

The boy was conscious and alert and was taken by ambulance to Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, Webb said.

His condition was not known Monday.
