Classic Eatery Guido's Drive-In Closes

The restaurant had moved to Manchester from its original Enfield location.

MANCHESTER, CT — The second phase of a throwback eatery that occupied two north central Connecticut locations is over.

Guido's Drive-In, which moved to Manchester more than a decade ago from Enfield, has closed.

The Hartford Courant reported that owner Ted Sposito, 64, says he has health problems now and wants to spend more time with his family.

Another restaurant could eventually occupy the property, he told the Courant.

When he opened Guido's in 1994 in Enfield as a hot dog stand, Sposito and his staff operated the business as a throwback to the carhop restaurants of the 1950s, where waitresses on roller skates served customers at their vehicles.

Dozens of classic cars and hot rods would periodically be showcased at Cruise Nights.

In 2005, Sposito said the rent was increased beyond his means. He closed the restaurant on Dec. 27, 2005, and eventually moved his business to Manchester, where Guido's Drive In and Car Hop Restaurant operated at 242 Broad Street.
