Cops Nab Suspect In Violent Manchester Car Theft Incident

MANCHESTER, CT — Manchester police have made an arrest in connection with a violent stolen car incident last month.

The altercation took place on July 23, police said.

At 10:01 a.m. that day, a driver parked his Honda Civic in the lot of the Taco Bell at 1524 Pleasant Valley Road and left the car idling while he went inside the establishment, according to an incident report.

At the same time, 39-year-old Manchester resident Benjamin Ingram who was walking near the lot, entered the unattended Honda and attempted to steal it, according to an incident report.

The vehicle owner then came out of Taco Bell, noticed what Ingram was doing and attempted to intervene, according to an incident report. Ingram drove away and the Honda's owner was dragged across the parking lot, according to an incident report. The Honda's owner suffered undisclosed injuries, police said.

Investigators conducted an extensive investigation, positively identified Ingram as the culprit and secured an arrest warrant, according to an incident report.

On Saturday, Ingram was located and arrested, police said.

He was charged with:

• Theft of a motor vehicle
• Third-degree robbery
• Third-degree assault
• First-degree reckless endangerment
• Reckless driving

Ingram was held on a $200,000 bond and issued a court date of Sept. 3, In Manchester, police said. A police report indicates that, while be was being taken into custody, narcotics and drug paraphernalia were found on Ingram.
