“Credit Issues can be an Uncomfortable Conversation”

Hi Joe

Thank you for copying me on the email regarding Denise's credit. That is what I was expecting. When we get together please understand that she is very sensitive about her poor credit. Hopefully she will accept your coaching and get herself back on the right track.

Believe
me I understand this email and am very sensitive to how someone is
feeling, but remember “It is not what you say, it is how you say what
you say”. For most this topic is very personal and there is the feeling
of shame, embarrassment and that no one understands.

It
is my responsibility to explain that this is where we are right now, as
you can’t become aware if you don’t know where you are. This part is
tough, as many don’t want to know or don’t want others to see where they
are.

The next
step is where a lot of discussion takes place, first are all the items
that are derogatory correct? If there are items that show in default or
collection, is that really the case? If there are errors the credit
bureaus need to be given evidence that an outstanding obligation has
been paid or is reported incorrectly.

Once
that part is out of the way and there are still items that are in
collection or reporting derogatory information, how do we start fixing
these items? They will need to contact the creditor or the collection
company and literally play, “Let’s make a deal”. I always recommend
starting with the smallest obligations first.

In most cases folks can start seeing improvement pretty quickly, especially if they are fully committed.
