Cross Country Champions Crowned At Wickham Park
A course and meet record fell as 12 teams and a dozen individuals won state championships at the CIAC class meets Saturday in Manchester.
MANCHESTER, CT — The first dozen team titles of the 2019 Connecticut high school fall sports season were determined Saturday at the CIAC cross country championships at Wickham Park. Individuals champions were also crowned in Classes LL, L, MM, M, SS and S.
The largest margin of victory was a whopping 1 minute, 25 seconds, as Kate Wiser of Pomperaug dusted the girls' field in Class L. Her time of 17:39 established a new course and meet record, two seconds faster than Hannah DeBalsi of Staples ran in 2013.
Robbie Cozean of Xavier took top time margin for the boys, outdistancing the second-fastest competitor in Class L by 39 seconds. On the flip side, Jacob Ireland of East Hampton had the smallest victory margin, winning Class SS by just seven seconds. Rhiannon Richmond of Avon prevailed by 15 seconds in MM.
