Dick's Sporting Goods Opens Its New Digs In Manchester

MANCHESTER, CT — The move by the Manchester Dick's Sporting Goods to the Burr Corners shopping plaza became official this week.

Shoppers were coming in and out already Thursday on the middle day of a three-day preview opening. Grand opening events are on tap for the weekend.

For years, Dick's had been located at the Shoppes at Buckland Hills mall. But last spring, the sporting goods giant announced it was leaving the mall for the Plaza at Burr Corners to fill vacancies left by Pilgrim furniture and Planet Fitness. The mall, located at 194 Buckland Hills Drive, and the plaza, located at 1131 Tolland Turnpike are one-and-a-half miles apart.

Edward Silvera, a principal at Surrey Equities and a part-owner of The Plaza at Burr Corners, said Dick's had approached him at the beginning of 2021.

In Manchester, a third preview day is on tap for Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The opening weekend hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

The second opening for Dick's this week in Hartford County was on the Farmington-West Hartford line.

The new location in the Westfarms retail district in Farmington and West Hartford is 1603 Southeast Road. That's the old Bed, Bath & Beyond vacancy.

A Dick's spokeswoman said the store moved from its previous location to both add to and modernize its retail space.

The Dick's Sporting Goods chain was founded in 1948. It specializes in sports equipment, apparel, footwear and accessories. As of May 1, the company operated 730 Dick's locations across the United States. Dick's also features in-store services and unique specialty "shop-in-shops."
