Edward Lemieux Sr., 88, Worked 41 Years at Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co.

A tennis player up to the age of 82, "Ed was a gentle, thoughtful person who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life."

Edward Joseph Lemieux Sr., 88 of Manchester, loving husband of the late Phyllis M. (Sheehan) Lemieux for 62 years, died peacefully Friday, Jan. 9, 2015 at Manchester Memorial Hospital.

Ed was born in Hartford, CT on March 23, 1926, son of the late Joseph and Johannah (Wittenberg) Lemieux. He was raised in Hartford and graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1944, and was later inducted into the school’s Sports Hall of Fame for his record-setting cross country and track performances. He then attended WPI for two years and finished his schooling at Trinity College, graduating with a bachelor in mathematics degree.

He and Phyllis lived in Cromwell before settling in Manchester in 1968. He was a parishioner and lector at St. Bartholomew Church for many years. Prior to retiring, Ed was employed at the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company for 41 years.

Ed was an avid tennis player up to age 82, and he enjoyed being a father to his six children and visiting with his grandchildren. Ed was a gentle, thoughtful person who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.

Ed is survived by his children, David Lemieux and his wife Alicia of Vernon, Linda Brown and her husband Greg of Sparta, GA, Edward Lemieux Jr. of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Richard Lemieux and his wife Sallie of Midland, GA, Jeanne Seyfried and her husband Don of Plymouth, MA, and James Lemieux of Huntington Beach, CA; his grandchildren, Heather Zabarac and her husband Joey, Christopher Brown, Jenny Brown, Donnie Seyfried, Annie Seyfried, and Jenny Seyfried; his sister-in-law Mary Lemieux of East Hartford, and his brother-in-law Harry Sheehan of Torrance, CA. Ed was predeceased by his older brother, Dick Lemieux of East Hartford.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Jan. 12, at St. Bartholomew Church, 45 Ludlow Rd., Manchester. Burial followed in Rose Hill Memorial Park in Rocky Hill.
