Enhanced After-School Program Improving Students’ Lives

Martial Arts School's After-School Program is helping students' behavior and academics

The Academy of Martial Arts & Personal Development’s Enhanced After-School Program has been running strong for 5 years and, in that time, has helped dozens of students’ lives, academically and behaviorally.

Students are picked up from their school and brought directly to the Academy, where they are provided with structured time to do homework, with extra help if necessary, under the watchful eye of a CT Certified teacher. In addition, students have time to read, play games, do arts & crafts and get their engineering on with some amazing Lego designs! What makes the Academy’s comprehensive After-School Program so unique is its focus on “Character Development”, both during After-School hours and martial arts classes. The Academy’s Enhanced After-School Program has helped students accomplish many things, including:

  • Helping a behaviorally challenged student overcome his struggles and earn a “Most Improved Behavior Award”
  • Helping a “special needs” student improve their diagnostic reading level… by 4 levels!
  • Helping a pre-school student learn to spell and write her name within 2 weeks of daily practice, which astonished her teachers!

Grandmaster Waldron, Owner and Grandmaster Instructor of the Academy of Martial Arts, believes that "the martial arts are an invaluable tool in developing children into confident, capable members of society. Adults benefit from a positive, safe and challenging environment as well as the chance to constantly grow, mentally and physically.” He adds, “Our After-School Program is unique in the sense that we work with the whole child, helping them improve their academics, with the help of a teacher, learn to control their behaviors and, get them physically healthy through martial arts training. It's a win-win-win!” For more information, about The Academy of Martial Arts & Personal Development, contact them by calling 860-646-7993, emailing at masterwaldron@gmail.com, visiting their website at www.TheAcademy.us or visiting the school at 440 Oakland Street in Manchester.
