Fed-Ex Truck Rolls Over After VW Cuts It Off In Manchester: Report

A truck rolled over in Manchester after getting tangled up with a car, state police said.

MANCHESTER, CT — A Fed-Ex tractor-trailer rolled over after getting tangled up with a small car Friday night in Manchester.

According to a state police crash report, at 9:15 p.m., the truck was traveling westbound on Interstate 84 in the center lane approximately a half-mile west of the Exit 60/62 interchange. It was being driven by a 42-year-old fall River, MA, man. A 2003 Volkswagen GTI being driven by a 25-year-old Coventry man was in the left lane and veered into the center lane, according to a crash report.

The GTI hit the truck, causing the driver to lose control and hit a concrete barrier, according to a crash report. The impact caused the truck to roll over.

The crash damaged about 75 feet of concrete barrier and metal beam guardrail and an overhead light pole, state police said. The accident caused a fire and a significant fuel spill and a passing ambulance was able to deploy a fire extinguisher and prevent the fire from spreading, prior to the fire department's arrival, officials said.

The driver was taken to an area hospital with unspecified injuries, state police said.

According to a crash report, the driver of the GTI was charged with failure to maintain the proper lane, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
