Golfers From the Region Swing Well at High School Championships
Avon captured a team title, while seven other teams and 12 individuals from Hartford and Tolland counties placed in the top 5.

North central Connecticut high school golfers turned in some impressive showings in the state class championships, held Monday and Tuesday at five different courses throughout the state.
The top performance by any team from Patch towns in Hartford and Tolland counties was turned in by Avon, which won the Division II championship for the second straight year Tuesday at Fairview Farms Golf Club in Harwinton. Led by medalist Michael Hanratty, who shot a 1-under par 71, the Falcons cruised to a 14-stroke victory over runnerup Berlin.
East Catholic had a shot at the Division III crown, tying at 309 with Killingly, but fell in a three-hole playoff, 50-52 at Tallwood Country Club in Hebron on Monday. Tolland finished fourth.

In Division I action Monday at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain, Conard placed third and Simsbury was fourth, five and six strokes, respectively, behind champion Greenwich.
Division IV proved toughest on area teams, with Somers managing the best showing with a tie for 10th Monday at Timberlin Golf Club in Kensington.

The girls championship was played Tuesday at Tashua Knolls Country Club in Trumbull, with Wethersfield placing third and Glastonbury fourth.
