Ground Broken for Bigger Bob's Discount Furniture HQ in Manchester
A host of dignitaries attended the ceremony.
MANCHESTER, CT — Construction is under way for an addition to the corporate headquarters of Bob's Discount Furniture.
Company figurehead Bob Kaufman, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and other dignitaries presided over a ground-breaking ceremony on Monday.
The three-story building is designed to employ more than 450 people on the site when construction is finished on the 9-acre parcel.

In May, the State Bond Commission awarded the company an $8.7 million loan for the furniture empire's new 103,000-square-foot corporate headquarters on Tolland Turnpike.
Bob's will pay an interest rate of 2 percent for a decade with the principal deferred over five years, according to state specifications.

The loan could be forgiven if the company creates 125 new jobs within five years and maintains them for two years, according to state records.
