Kona's Shaved Ice Takes The Heat Off Tax Day In Manchester

​The island-themed truck parked itself at two Manchester locations Monday for a free promotion on tax filing day.

MANCHESTER, CT — A popular food truck that specializes in flavored shaved ice carried out a Tax Day tradition at two locations in Manchester Monday.

The theme of the day at the Kona Ice truck was "No Taxation Without Relaxation" as part of Kona's "National Chill Out Day," during which free cups of flavored shaved ice were handed out.

The island-themed truck parked itself at two Manchester locations Monday to celebrate the deadline for filing state and federal income taxes — Highland Park Market and the plaza at 59 Tolland Turnpike near the Vernon line. The Manchester franchise added a second truck this year.

"Yes ... I filed my taxes today so I need this ... I owed money," said one Manchester resident. "I need a treat."

A teacher came down from East Windsor with her two teen daughters. She had filed early in the tax season but knew Kona from school events and "needed a shaved ice." One of the girls had it for the first time.

The 2022 campaign marked the seventh-such event for Kona.

Kona is franchise featuring trucks that serve up flavored shaved ice at events.
