“This is some good news,” said the 61-year-old Hartford man through a huge smile on his face. “I got the opportunity to get it right, to be happy.”

Robert got the structure and help he needed to treat his alcohol and drug addiction from Intercommunity Health Care--located in Hartford’s North End with a primary care facility on 16 Coventry Street and one of the largest detox centers in the region located on 500 Blue Hills Avenue.

We are not disclosing Robert’s full last name for patient confidentiality reasons.

“They gave me structure, self-esteem and self-worth,” he said. “They gave me more than hope, I have dreams again.”

Robert’s Nightmare.

Not too long ago, Rowe was living a real nightmare. He was homeless and living in abandoned buildings and lost all contact with his family.

“The hardest part about getting clean is staying clean,” he said. “I never thought I would be here, on the other side of addiction, but they gave me longer programs that really helped me to retrain the way I was thinking.”

Robert went through a five day detox program at 500 Blue Hills Avenue (in the former Mt. Sinai Hospital building) After that, he went through a 28 day long term program, and then six months of counseling services and support. He also has access to health care services at InterCommunity’s primary care facility at 16 Coventry Street which treats every member of the family.

I feel marvelous!

“I would tell anyone who is using, that help is available through InterCommunity Health Care. They won’t give up on you,” Robert said. “I always say If you’re using, you’re losing. I lost my job, my family, relationships with my kids. I now have that all back and I can appreciate it. I’m never going back to the other side of addiction. I like feeling the light on my face and having dreams again. This is a beautiful place to be.”
