Longtime Shady Glen Owner Bill Hoch Dies
The owner of the popular restaurants died Thursday.

MANCHESTER, CT — Bill Hoch, the longtime owner of the popular Shady Glen restaurants, had died. He was 79.
Shady Glen is known for its unique cheeseburgers, along with its cole slaw and ice cream.
Hoch died on Thursday at Hartford Hospital after an extended illness, according to his obituary on the Holmes-Watkins Funeral Homes website.

Hoch was born in Stafford on Feb. 28, 1938, and received a degree in agriculture and dairy manufacturing from the University of Connecticut. He moved to Manchester in the early 1950s and began working at the family run Shady Glen Dairy Stores at 15.
He had worked there ever since and took over operations in 1970 with his wife, Annette.
