MANCHESTER, CT — It's only a few days after Christmas and folks in Manchester are already looking for Jesus.

And when they find him — well, the right person to depict him — he will be the headliner in a Little Theatre of Manchester production of "Godspell."

The Little Theatre of Manchester has sent out a casting call for an actor to portray Jesus in its April 2017 production of the popular play's 2012 Revival Version.

According to the casting call, the role calls for a high baritone/tenor voice and someone "very charismatic, high energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength."

"He is the sort of person people naturally follow," theater officials said.

Auditions will take place by RSVP starting at noon on Saturday, Jan. 7, at Cheney Hall. Interested actors can RSVP via auditions@cheneyhall.org.

Actors will need to prepare a contemporary rock musical selection (ballad or uptempo) and be familiar and able to perform any or all of the following songs from the show: "Save the People" and "Beautiful City" and "Alas for You" and "All for the Best." Actors will need to bring sheet music for the selections. Music from the show will be provided as will an accompanist. Actors should also be prepared for some movement during the audition, theater officials said.

Rehearsals for the show are slated to begin on or about Feb. 6, Monday through Thursday. The show is scheduled to open on April 7 for a three-week run with two shows on April 22 and no show on Easter Sunday, theater officials said.

Any questions should be directed to auditions@cheneyhall.org.
