MANCHESTER, CT — State police Monday were stepping up an investigation into a homicide at a Manchester parking lot a day earlier that could have as many as 200 witnesses.

The shooting took place at about 2 a.m. Sunday at the Connecticut Department of Transportation commuter lot off Buckland Street in Manchester amid a gathering of between 100 and 200 people, state police said.

Two people were shot, state police said, and both were taken to area hospitals. One of the victims died as a result of a gunshot wound and was later identified as 20-year-old Massachusetts resident Jennifer Hicks, a report indicates.

The lot was quiet Monday morning, save for a smattering of vehicles and a state-run commuter bus. Detectives from the Central District Major Crimes Squad are currently investigating the incident and are asking any witnesses to call the state police Troop H barracks at 860-534-1000.

State police said all information will remain confidential.
