Manchester, East Catholic Grapplers Qualify for State Open

BRISTOL/WINDHAM, CT — Five wrestlers from Manchester-based high schools will be competing in the State Open next weekend, following impressive performances in their class championship meets.

Three grapplers from Manchester High School placed in the Class L Championships at Bristol Central High School, while a pair of East Catholic wrestlers finished in the top six at the Class S Championships at Windham High School.

For the first time since 1996, Bristol Eastern won the Class L title, edging New Milford by a 231-230 margin. Daniel Hand was third with 143.5 points.

For a record 20th time, Ledyard won a state class title, compiling 203.5 points to outdistance Windham's 188 in Class S. Montville was third with 185.5 points.

The State Open will begin Friday, Feb. 26 at 4 p.m. at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.
