Running for my third two-year term on Manchester's Board of Directors.

Now we'd like to ask a few questions about your reasons for running and your general views on politics and government. First, why are you seeking this office?

I am a long-time resident of Manchester committed to the future of our community. I want to keep moving us forward to make Manchster the best place in Connecticut to live, work, raise a family.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is \_\_\_, and this is what I intend to do about it.

We must continue to do everything we can to make Manchester the most welcoming, diverse, attractive, and vibrant community possible. We are moving in that direction and we must keep our momentum going. At the same time, we must continue to provide the full range of town programs and services people have come to expect here - at a property price tag that keeps our community affordable - and make certain our social service network can continue to provide assistance to those in need.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

My Democratic colleagues and I understand how government works, and how local government can help build our community, educate our children, and assist people in need. We believe our local government can be a positive force and play a useful and helpful role in people's lives.

If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

I have been very focused on issues of sustainability and the environment - and, if re-elected, will maintain that focus. I supported efforts to use a state program to install solar power on several schools and town buildings; I spoke out in support of several important purchases of open space for trails and outdoor recreations; and I've worked to improve the network of trails in our town.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I supported the adoption of town budgets that maintained and strengthened town programs and services - while keeping property taxes in check. I was a strong voice for several sustainability and environmental issues. I was a leader in the effort to bring to voters a proposal to build a new library on Main St., and with voter approval for that project, I am now serving on the Library Building Committee to bring Manchester an exciting, new, 21st Century library.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Be kind to others. Support those in need. Work for a better future.
