HARTFORD, CT — Speaker of the House Matt Ritter (D-Hartford) and House Majority Leader Jason Rojas (D-East Hartford, Manchester) announced the appointment of State Rep. Geoff Luxenberg (D-Manchester) as House Chair of the Housing Committee.

The new legislative session starts Jan. 4, 2023.

"I am grateful to Speaker Ritter and Majority Leader Rojas for this opportunity, and I will work tirelessly every day to honor the confidence they have placed in me to lead the Housing Committee," Luxenberg said. "Together we have an opportunity to re-imagine our housing policies and improve outcomes, with an eye toward transformational investments in affordable housing. Affordability, community investment, and enhancing the residential housing sector as an economic catalyst for middle-class Connecticut job growth will be some of our top priorities.

"The double-whammy of pandemic-triggered economic housing market disruptions and inflation in housing costs will require some innovative new policy solutions to help improve the lives of families in Connecticut and I am optimistic we can rise to the challenge and make a real difference through our Committee work,” continued Rep. Luxenberg. “It is said that ‘home is where the heart is’ but for far too many Connecticut families the stability and affordability of housing is where help is most needed, which is where our hearts and minds must focus as policymakers."

Said Ritter, “Geoff has been a strong leader these past two years as one of our Caucus Chairs. I know he will bring the same laser focus to the Housing Committee.”

Rojas added, "I've had the opportunity to work closely with Rep. Luxenberg as members of the Manchester delegation, and there are few legislators who are as passionate and caring about the people we all serve. Rep. Luxenberg brings a diligent work ethic and professional experience that makes him an ideal candidate to lead on housing issues. He is particularly aware of our housing affordability crisis, which will be a priority policy area for the legislature during the coming session. The Housing Committee will benefit from Rep. Luxenberg's leadership."

Rep. Luxenberg is a member and founder of the bipartisan Crumbling Foundations Caucus and has helped secure millions of dollars to repair and replace crumbling foundations across greater Hartford and eastern Connecticut.
