Manchester Man Arrested After Knife Used In Fight At Vernon Complex

A 'mushing' incident began the melee, police said.

VERNON, CT - Vernon police rounded up the combatants in a large Saturday night fight that involved a knife at a local apartment complex and sent them to the lockup on various charges.

The fight broke out at the 31 Park West Drive complex just before 10 p.m., according to police records. Calls to police indicated there was a knife involved as well as several people. As cruisers were approaching the complex, several people in the street began pointing toward a black Toyota Camry and another person on foot, according to police records.

One officer intercepted the person on foot and another headed to the car, which had two occupants, according to a police report.

The fight began when a woman, identified as 37-year-old Danielle Hanley, "mushed" someone's face, according to a police report. Things began escalating soon after and a knife was brandished by Abram Williams, 22, of 20 Golway St., Manchester. He threatened the crowd with the weapon, according to a police report.

Williams was charged with second-degree threatening, carrying a dangerous weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree breach of peace, risk of injury to a child, marijuana possession, and interfering, police said.

Police said they would be applying for a warrant to arrest Hanley.

Also part of the fight was Steven Closs, 35, of 45 Smith Drive, East Hartford, according to police records. He was charged with pot possession and carrying a dangerous weapon, according to police records. He was in possession of the knife when police began questions suspects, arrest records indicate.

Operating the car that police intercepted was Michael Liebler, 33, of 101 South St., Vernon, police said.

He was charged with interfering, narcotics possession and possessing drug paraphernalia, according to police records.

Three arrest warrants had been issued in Liebler's name for twice violating probation and for failing to appear in court, according to police records.
