Manchester Man Charged in Box-Hiding 2016 Burglary: State Police

A Manchester man was charged in a 2016 burglary during which he hid among basement boxes, a warrant states.

MANCHESTER, CT — A Manchester man was charged with first- and second-degree burglary on Sunday for a 2016 Ashford break-in, state police said.

Jacob Messenger, 23, was released on a $75,000 bond and was assigned a court date of Nov. 28, state police said.

The incident took place at 5 a.m. on April 30, 2016, according to a warrant. A resident of a home on Bebbington Avenue in Ashford told police he heard a noise comig from the basement and, when he went downstairs to determine the source, saw someone hiding amid some boxes, according to a warrant.

The homeowner tried to detain the man, but he freed himself, ran up the stiars and fled the home through the kitchen and into a waiting vehicle, according to a warrant.

The man broke into the house through a basement window, according to a warrant.

State police used DNA samples to identify a suspect, later determined to be Messenger, according to a warrant.
