Manchester Man Lied About Huge Art Theft: Authorities

Robert Gentile is accused of lying to a grand jury.

A cooperation agreement between the FBI and an elderly Manchester resident pertaining to the 1990 heist of valuable art from a Boston museum ended when authorities accused him of lying to a grand jury, Fox61 reported.

The 13 pieces of art, valued at $500 million, have not been recovered since being stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum 25 years ago. On March 18, 1990, a pair of thieves disguised as Boston police officers entered the museum, roamed the halls and stole the works, according to WCVB-TV.

Robert Gentile, now 79, has been revealed in court as the man who told an FBI informant five years ago that he knew who was behind the heist. He has since denied knowing anything about the case, the station reported.
