
Burton F. “Iggy” Christensen, 90, of Manchester, beloved husband of the late Nellie (Yaghjian) Christensen, passed away Friday, January, 22, 2016.
Born in Hartford, son of the late Samuel and Annie (Smith) Christensen, he was raised in the Wilson section of Windsor and graduated from John Fitch High School. He joined the Navy and served aboard the destroyer escort USS Straus in the Pacific Theatre and was awarded four Battle Stars. After the war, he received his BS from Teachers College of CT in 1949 and taught at Windsor High School for several years before joining Southwestern Publishing Company, providing text books for schools throughout New York and New England, retiring after 33 years. He was a 50 year member of Washington Lodge # 70 AF & AM, charter member of VFW Post 4740 both in Windsor, and VFW Post 254. He was an avid golfer and past president of the former Pine Hill Golf Club in Windsor. Iggy loved the UConn women’s basketball team and spending time at Mohegan Sun Casino.
Besides his parents and wife Nellie he was predeceased by his brothers John, Harold, Leonard, and Leslie Christensen.

He leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews on both his and Nellie’s side of the family. He also leaves his many friends at White Oaks in Manchester.
His family will receive friends Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 10-11 am at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM with burial with military honors at Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
