Manchester Obituary: Richard Patten, 89

Condolences to his family and friends.

Richard L. Patten, 89, of Manchester, loving husband of the late Eleanor (Nickerson), passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at his home.

Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Frank and Nina (McConnell) Patten. Richard was an engineer with Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, where he retired after many years of employment. Richard served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy and enjoyed his naval ship reunions over the years. He was an avid hunter and was happiest spending time in the Maine outdoors.

A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Richard will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew him. He leaves his children; Susan Patten and Joseph DeMers of Newington, Linda Valinsky and her husband Matthew of Lancaster, OH, and Richard F. Patten; his grandchildren, Daniel Patten, Josh Patten and his wife Christine, Melissa Kjeldbjerg and her husband Alan, Heather Valinsky and James Valinsky and his wife Rachel; and his great grandchildren, Jakob, Grace, Beck, Erik, Riley, Richard, Elinor, Nicholas and Alyssa. He also leaves his sister Francine Chander of Lynn, MA. In addition to his beloved Eleanor, he was predeceased by his sister, Alma Tivey.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, July 16, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave. Newington. His funeral will follow immediately at 11:30 a.m. at Newington Memorial. Interment with military honors will take place at 1:00 p.m. in St. James Cemetery in Manchester.
