MANCHESTER, CT — There have been a lot more bear sightings at the Manchester Police Department these days and the local cops are hoping that translates into a little more comfort for the young people who face stressful situations.

Manchester police have partnered with the Manchester Municipal Federal Credit Union to ramp up the M.P.D. Cares Initiative. Through the program, officers now have small plush bears to give to children during police calls and crisis and traumatic events.

"In doing this, we hope to connect with the children in our community and bring them comfort and security in otherwise unpredictable situations," police said about the partnership.
